In December, when it became clear that a vaccine was coming soon, I decided it was time to put my scrubs back on and help the vaccination effort. At first, it was a little difficult to find out where to get involved (much easier now) but I was able to apply with my old employer, Ascension, and got hired on their vaccination team. Since late December, I've been working to evening/night shifts per week vaccinating as many people as we can. Doing the same thing over and over again is not something I'm particularly drawn to, but I do feel like it is a small way I can help push Covid out as quickly as possible. People are also generally excited to be getting this vaccine, also (although I've had a fair share of people with anxiety). I've also been lucky enough to get both doses of the Pfizer vaccine so hopefully I'm fairly protected from Covid for at least a while (but who knows, really). Covid, it's been real, but it's time to move on.
Everything vaccine related is usually kept pretty secret so as to not draw unwanted attention (we actually need to have security at the clinic doors since people try to come in and insist on getting a vaccine). One night, security was unavailable to return the unused vaccines back to the main hospital, so I offered to bring them. I guess the cooler isn't quite as discrete.
