Before jumping into Advent, we had Thanksgiving. Of course, no normal Thanksgiving this year. We celebrated with my immediate side of the family outside in early November when it was 70 degrees. We celebrated with Chris' immediate side with a "garage-giving" a few weeks ago also. On actual Thanksgiving we allowed every family member to pick two foods to have for dinner. In hindsight we should have done one food...it was very "yellow" colored.
Chris - BBQ weiners and sausage cheese dip and chips
Stephanie - spinach and artichoke dip and apple cider
Camden - corn and and Velveeta shells n'cheese
Savannah - cinnamon apples and cherry pie
Jonas - rolls
Levi - blueberries
Our first week of advent:
- annual (virtual) small group party - the kids did a "show n tell" of our house decor, nativity bingo, and "The Very First Noel" movie we always watch
- walk through our neighborhood to see Santa drive by in a fire truck! What a fun and festive surprise from Carmel Fire Department.
- wrapping gifts for family/teachers while watching the Butler performance of the Nutcracker Ballet
- lights at the fairgrounds - our first year going to this and it was great! Covid friendly!
- painting wooden toy soldiers
-watching a Christmas movie with popcorn (we tried "Noelle" on Disney+ and it was very cute)
-Jonas made a snowman craft on a MOMS Club zoom
-virtual breakfast with Santa and prepping for St. Nick to come the next morning
Our first Christmas in our new house incurred some discussion on where the tree would go. Chris and I thought the obvious place was the "morning room" right in the middle of our main floor. It normally is where we have a small couch and coffee table that could easily be moved. Camden felt very strongly that the tree should only go in the living room, despite it being difficult to find a place to put it. After much discussion we agreed to put it in the morning room but move it to the living room on Christmas eve and day. We'll see how that goes.
