Vacation #2 this summer was a week in the Smoky Mountains! We drove down and decided to stop at the Ark Encounter in Kentucky since it was a good stopping point and something that looked pretty interesting. It is a HUGE ark built to the specifications of Noah's ark in the Bible. We don't necessarily interpret the Noah's ark story in the same way, but it was neat to see and go into the giant structure and explore what it could have looked like. When we arrived there was a huge downpour, which really added to the atmosphere (and we felt like we may actually need the ark!).
they had a small zoo on the grounds, with kangaroos
on the way home, we mentioned how we never saw a bear on the trip. An hour later, a black bear crossed the highway right in front of us! I managed to grab a photo, too!
we stopped at playgrounds, rest stops, and parks on the way up and down to burn off some energy and picnic
