Alaskan cruise - Sitka, Alaska

Our second port was Sitka, Alaska (day 4 of the cruise, and my birthday!). We shopped for a bit before catching a shuttle from the port area to the Raptor Center closer to the city center. There we learned about raptor rehabilitation and got to see a bald eagle up close. We saw some of the other birds that are being rehabilitated at the center and walked around the grounds a bit.

After that, we walked along the trails that lead towards the water in Sitka National Historic Park. We stopped at a stream to throw rocks. The tide was still low so we were able to walk along the water and look for crabs and shells. We ate a picnic lunch there, also. This day the weather was cool (maybe the coldest day) and only slightly drizzly.

We walked towards the town and ended up stopping for a long time at a nice playground there. While we watched the kids play, we could see bald eagles flying and perched in the trees nearby. The kids had ditched their jackets at this point in the day as it warmed up a bit. When we were tired of playing, we took a shuttle back to the port.

Every day started with all-you-can-eat (included) buffet breakfast and views to die for!

I packed the toddler carrier because I knew a certain toddler wasn't going to walk the whole way

he fell asleep in my front carrier on the shuttle home (he hasn't done that since he was an infant)
