Alaskan cruise - Ketchikan, Alaska

Our first port was Ketchikan, Alaska (day 3 of the cruise following a sea day). This was actually added only a couple weeks prior to cruising after they eliminated Skagway from the itinerary due to dock issues. We exited the ship and picked up a rental car from Turo around the corner. We headed to the Southeast Alaskan Discovery Center to learn about this part of Alaska. Savannah did the Junior Ranger program and Levi did a scavenger hunt.

Afterwards, the rain had slowed so we drove about 1/2hr out of town to hike on some trails. We chose one that was short and led down to the waterline where we could look for shells and throw rocks. We hiked a bit more and then had a picnic lunch at a shelter. The weather this day was cool and a light drizzle in the morning which is pretty typical for Alaska.

On the way back to town we stopped at Totem Bight to see totem poles along a walking trail.

We drove back into town to walk along the famous Creek Street. During the later summer, salmon swim up the creek there but there weren't any at this time. Then we headed back to the ship after returning the car.
