After much debate about whether to cancel a cruise I had booked 18 months ago, I decided we'd go for it. More extensive travel is something I've really been wanting to do and the pandemic made it much more difficult. Once I understood all the many safety protocols for the cruise I felt comfortable enough to move forward.
Prior to leaving, the three older kids had to get Covid tests (3 days out) and Chris and I were allowed (as vaccinated people) to test at home with a virtual proctor. All of this (plus our vaccination cards) needed to be presented (along with a health check) the day of the cruise. In addition, the three kids would require one additional Covid test at the port.
We were lucky we were generally not affected by the massive Southwest Airline cancelations for the weekend we flew out. Whew! I booked our flight to arrive two days early so we could stay at a resort for two nights prior to the cruise. Our flight was completely full so Levi sat on Chris' lap (our last flight with a "lap baby"). Everyone did great even though our flight took an hour longer due to in-flight weather delays.
Once in Fort Lauderdale, we drove to our hotel in Doral, outside of Miami. I picked the hotel since we could use our Marriott free night certificates and because it had two bedrooms (very nice). We ate our dinner, unpacked a little, and got our Instacart groceries before heading to bed.
