memorial service

Twice a year, St. Vincent has a memorial service at Our Lady of Peace cemetery for miscarried babies and their families are invited to attend. There is a section of the cemetery for infants (so sad) and the miscarried babies are cremated and placed into a group urn there.

The service included a song (He's Got the Whole World in His Hands), readings, reciting the names of the babies, a homily, and prayers followed by a balloon release at the gravesite. It was very nice, not "over the top" while being respectful of the feelings of those attending (different approach than a funeral). My mom, mother-in-law, sister and brother-in-law attended along with our niece and nephew who were with us over the weekend. It was sad to see other parents and their families there (about 12 total families) but also nice that all of our babies were recognized.
