Before Christmas I debated about what to do about Santa. Should we downplay him to focus on the real meaning of Christmas? Focus more on Saint Nicholas and less on Santa? I wasn't sure how to approach all the various aspects of Christmas, but in the end I think we had a good balance. We talked a lot about the Holy Family, nativity, and Jesus' birth. We also focused on Saint Nicholas and how it is good to give to others (his favorite Christmas movie is Veggie Tales St. Nick). I think Camden understood Christmas is about the birth of baby Jesus and giving, but when it came to Santa, though, Camden was still excited.
He enjoyed pretending to be Santa on the Christmas train (our minivan), talking about the north pole and reindeer, and thinking about what he'd ask for. On Christmas Eve, we left out cookies and milk for Santa, and carrots for reindeer. Camden requested that Daddy and I hurry to bed after him so Santa could come. The next day, he even asked if we should write a thank you letter to Santa. How sweet!
As usual, we planned a relaxing day at home for Christmas Day. We were up early (as always) to open presents.
We made a lego table for Camden using this tutorial. We decided to make a removable tray so that he could play with it on the floor, table, or in his room when he needs to avoid Godzilla (aka Savannah). It sits on a LACK table from IKEA and is the perfect size.
Savannah got an art easel (also IKEA)
I also made a drawstring mat/bag to store the Duplo legos using a turorial like this.
