1st Birthday - food

Whenever I am collecting recipes to make for a party, I tend to wonder if they will be 1) tasty 2) easy to make 3) not a huge globby mess when I am done trying to create them.  Sure, Martha Stewart's version is beautiful and perfect, but what will mine look like?  Here is a list of the snacks and treats from Camden's Goldfish Party.  I added my little notes in case you should ever wish to make any of them.

Dipped Pretzel Rods - easy peasy

Fruity Candy Popcorn - the popcorn should be the color of the jello you use, but my orange was a bit more red and the blue was more green.  Maybe worth practicing ahead of time to see what colors you'll get.

Fish Bowl Gelatin - I thought this was just for decoration, but you can eat it too.  You can make the jello portion ahead of time, but I'd suggest not adding the fish until the day of the party. I made them a day or two in advance and they ended up getting very puffy and all of their color ran into the jello.

Ham & Cheese Sliders and chicken salad sandwiches (my mom made the chicken salad)- I used goldfish bread to go with our theme.  For the ham and cheese sliders, if you are debating about adding the mustard mixture to the top because it looks messy...DO IT!

Marshmallow Pops - although theses are easy to make an inexpensive, they were too much of a hassle to get to stand upright and no one ate them.

Oreo Truffles - these did not look as lovely as the example photos...maybe I need a better technique.  They are really yummy, though!

Assorted Goldfish crackers - there are a lot of Goldfish flavors out there...more than you would think!  I put a few flavors in blue plastic shot glasses.  I also used the classic orange goldfish (which are sold in bulk) in fish bowls for decoration.  Now we'll be eating leftover goldfish in our lunches for the next 6 months!

Veggies and Dip Cups - I forgot to photograph theses. I used some plastic cups I found that were meant for Jager Bombs.  Like these.  I filled the center with veggie dip and the surrounding area with carrots and orange pepper slices. (I was suprised that these were the first things gone!)

Cheese and Crackers - self explanitory
Chocolate Fountain - I remembered it was sitting in our garage (it belongs to my parents), so I pulled it out and put it to use!  I used white candy melts and colored them blue with candy coloring.

Blue Punch - this is suppose to be a baby shower punch and you float rubber duckies in it (cute!).  However, the sherbert turns it into a greyish pink color...

Banana Bran Muffin with Whipped Cream Frosting - I used these recipes to make the baby smash cake.  This website has a lot of good baby recipes including first birthday cake recipe ideas.  The frosting was perfect for a smash cake, but the cake was a little to hard and too difficult for little hands to smash up.

I LOVED the bigger cake we had made for the guests.  I called around for the cheapest price for a custom cake I could find near us, and Encore! Desserts and More was reasonable.  I asked for a goldfish themed cake and she said she could come up with something...and she came up with a super cute fish bowl cake!

Too bad we had to eat the cake!  It was as tasty as it looked!  Mmmm, I wish a had a piece right now!
