must see museums

I Googled "best museums in the world" to get an idea of the must-see museums. I haven't been to nearly all of them, but I have been to a few so I thought I'd compare them. Although I can provide my opinions, I am no expert on the subject of art or museums in general : ) I'd also love to find out other people's suggestions for "must see" museums.

I would say the Louvre was probably my favorite museum. The collection is extensive and is well organized and presented. I also recognized a lot of the art, which was exciting : ) It is absolutely huge and would take days to see it all. The building structure itself is a piece of art and very iconic.

This wasn't on the "best museum" lists I saw, maybe because its collection is less diverse? Chris and I really enjoyed our visit here, especially the Sistine Chapel at the end. If you didn't stop to look at any of the art, it would probably take you at least a half-hour to walk through the museum to get to the Sistine Chapel!

This place is crammed full with Egyptian history! Although you can find many Egyptian pieces outside of Egypt, this is definitely the largest collection. The Tutankhamen treasures alone are worth the trip. We found that you need to bring our buy a guide book to be able to understand what you are looking at. Unlike most museums we've been to, the pieces here were not labeled with as much information as we are accustom to. We arrived shortly before closing and found ourselves wandering alone through massive hallways filled with unlabeled sarcophoagi wondering what exactly we were looking at.

Perfectly situated in the Upper East Side of Manhattan right beside Central Park, this museum is easy to get to and a must-see. We only saw parts of the museum, but we liked being able to download free audio tours for some of the traveling exhibits which are all included with your ticket.

This place, like several of the other museums mentioned, is massive. I visited this place with a friend and we had a list and map of the specific things we wanted to see during our short visit. That list included the Rosetta Stone, the Parthenon Marbles, and the huge collection of Egyptian antiquities. If you can't make it to Egyptian Museum in Cairo, this is probably the next best option. We were lost a lot, but we saw the highlights!
