Edinburgh in less than a day (7-14-06)

We ate a wonderful meal at the Hilton with my Uncle Paul where they were having a dinner for State Farm agents who sold a lot of life insurance. He then took us on an old red bus to the London Eye where we got an evening trip around and then back to the red bus. I think I want to become a State Farm agent now, because this trip they get sounds awesome! Thanks Uncle Paul!

Around ten that night, Teresa and I met up with five other girls from our class and boarded a bus to Scotland. I didn?t realize it would take nearly nine hours to get there. If you ever plan on riding a night bus for that long, here are some guidelines I created:
1. Try and get your own seat in the back so you are less likely to have a seatmate
2. When new people board the bus at different stops, immediately pretend you are asleep so they don?t wake you up to ask to sit by you
3. When the sleeping trick doesn?t work, quickly move next to a friend (preferably a small and short one)
4. Next take out any clothes you may have packed and use them to cover the floor in front of your seat.
5. Proceed to lay on the floor and try to sleep
6. If you are at all Closter phobic or hate the smell of feet, don?t ride the bus to begin with
Around eight Friday morning, we got off of the bus and Teresa and I headed by ourselves to the visitors center. We walked around the town a little bit, and headed up the hill to Edinburgh Castle. We got to see some crown jewels, really old buildings, and a great view of Scotland.

Next, we headed back down the hill and walked along the Royal Mile, a street leading from Edinburgh Castle to the Palace of Holyroodhouse. We decided to head towards Holyrood Park where there was a huge mountain/hill to climb that would offer a great view. After about twenty minutes of climbing we gave up on that idea and enjoyed the view from a smaller hill.

I wanted to get close to the water, so we hopped on a bus and took it to the Ocean Terminal. The view wasn?t that great, but we found the Britannia, the Queen?s and the royal family?s personal yacht. We toured it and got to see where Prince Charles, Princess Diana, the Queen, and many other famous people spent vacations. I wish I was the Queen; I would definitely make my bedroom/bed a little bigger.

We took the bus back to Princes Street and ate dinner at a little pub where we tried some Scottish soda. We walked up and down the streets and took a picture with the memorial to Greyfriar?s Bobby, a little dog that stayed at his owner?s grave for 14 years until he also died. We shopped and soaked in the Scottish culture until ten when we boarded the bus to London.

Scotland was very beautiful, and I would love to come back and see the countryside next time (and maybe even hunt for Nessie!). Now we are off to do more sightseeing around London!
