NYC - day 1 - travel

So a bit out of the blue, it occurred to me we could make a trip to New York City work over spring break. Originally we were planning on a fall trip, but that would involve pulling the kids out of school (and also waiting!). I realized we had accumulated the airline/hotel points we needed earlier than expected so (very uncharacteristically for Chris and I) we planned a trip just three weeks out!

I wanted the kids to understand at least a little about NYC before we left, so we got some library books and DVDs to watch. Camden was particularly interested in the events of 9/11, which he previously knew very little about. Jonas brought Chris and I a book about the Empire State Building and said "Let's go see this liberty!". A little confused, but excited none the less!

Our first day started by driving the crew to Midway airport in Chicago so we could take a cheaper and nonstop flight to LaGuardia. It was delayed an hour, but we made due wandering the airport and getting faces painted. Once we landed in LaGuardia, we had to take an Lyft XL from the airport to our hotel in midtown Manhattan (near the southern part of Central Park). It was a bit tricky quickly loading all of our luggage, a toddler and a car seat, and two kids in portable booster seats...but we managed to make it to the hotel in tact. We checked in to the Wellington Hotel and Chris and Camden picked up pizza from "99 cent pizza" next door...can't get a better deal than that in NYC!

Jonas was sure he would be "awake" during the flight. This was 5 minutes in.

my brother is moving there in July, so we are considering taking the boys there :) looks like a great trip. Elliott has wanted to see the statue of liberty for a long time. I wasn't sure if they would love NYC at their age but looks like you found lots to do with kids!
