school-aged kid

As my oldest starts Kindergarten, I have to reflect on how far we've come together as a family. It wasn't that long ago we swaddled him to sleep, watched him learn to walk in our living room, and joined our first playgroup where all the little toddlers just played with new toys rather than the other kids. We enjoyed years of mornings without a real agenda, just plans to go to the "big green playground" followed by lunch and a nap.

Now, we move on from those carefree days. From now on, Monday through Friday is a lot more structured. I told Chris I was sad that his/our simple days were over. He seemed to think there were plenty of fun days ahead. I'm sure he's right but it's still something I think about. For this year, at least, Camden will still enjoy a lot of free time for our little outings and adventures since Monday through Wednesday will be our homeschool days. Today, we were leaving mid-morning for a little errand and the kids stopped to watch a little moth on the outside of the van door. I'm glad we still can take time for these little things.

As we look forward to our new adventures and title as parents of a "school aged kid", it's nice to reflect on how far we've come.
