Indianapolis "vacation"

We had to be out of our house for five nights while the flooring on our main floor were being replaced (more on that later). Since our homeowners insurance was going to cover a two-bedroom hotel room, I asked if we could stay at the Residence Inn on the canal so it would feel like vacation (rather than a hotel in Carmel). They agreed, so we headed to Indianapolis for our "vacation". I had also begged the contractors to be done before we were suppose to start our school (at home) on 8/22. He squeezed us in the week before!

The kids were excited (as usual) for a hotel stay. We had prior engagements and work the first night a day, but Tuesday evening we walked right out of our hotel along the canal to dinner at Burgerhaus. We ate outside and then walked back and fed the ducks some fries. We went swimming and then enjoyed the snack hour.

Wednesday, we explored the zoo (it was not crowded at all!) and enjoyed our 5 minute drive back "home" (versus 45 minutes typically).

our favorite part was riding the Skyline ride which is finally working! I has great views of the zoo, city, and even two orangutans that were climbing around

On Thursday morning, we walked along the canal to the White River and then back to the Indiana State Museum.

we ended up feeding the ducks everyday. They loved it.

Camden also enjoyed playing "knights" with the pool sticks

On Friday, we walked the opposite way a long the canal all the way to the IU PeopleMover (monorail) and rode it between the hospitals (we were the only "recreational" riders, I believe). That evening we went to the fair!

We all enjoyed our little unexpected getaway and the chance to explore our city a little more before the start of school.
