Pura Vida! (9/4/07)

Our first day in Costa Rica! After arriving after sunset yesterday evening, we were finally able to see the landscape around us…and it is magnificent. The Paradisus Playa Conchal is located in the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica (the northwest side). The resort is located right off of Playa Conchal beach which got its name from the many pieces of shell that make up the beach. The resort itself includes a really large, free-form pool, several restaurants, shops, casino, villas, and a special Royal Service area. It is all inclusive, so the food, alcohol, and entertainment are part of the room price. Since we are on our honeymoon, we were in the Royal Service area which has it’s own pool, cabanas, swim up bar, lounge, and restaurant. The resort is huge but won’t even be finished until 2025.

First on our agenda was to see if we could switch rooms. The man on the other side of our adjoining rooms snored extremely loud and his alarm sounded as if it was in our own room (I actually got up to turn it off). The new room we switched to had a great bathroom and, luckily, no adjoining room. We were both very happy with the switch.
We spent most of the morning looking around, eating, and swimming in the huge pool. I had purchased an underwater camera bag which provided for much entertainment. Once we were done with the pool, we walked over to the beach and spent some time exploring that area. The tide was low, so we were able to climb around the rocky cliff area and look at tide pools.
For dinner, we ate at the Asian-fusion restaurant, Spices. We had sushi, miso soup, shrimp, and chicken. The “wine guy” gave us new glasses of wine for each part of the meal and a special “honeymoon” wine at the end. The thing we both learned today is that we will not go hungry or thirsty while on this vacation.
