After falling asleep to drunken people singing in French outside our window, Teresa and I got up and headed to the Gare de Nord to catch the bus. We ate baguettes again for breakfast. Our first stop was the Moulin Rouge; home of the first can-can/striptease show. After that we visited Sacre-Coeur up on a hill. It was a beautiful basilica. On our way to Champs de Elisees, we stopped at a mall to shop a bit...more like a lot. I could never live in Paris because I could not afford the fashions here. We walked up and down Champs de Elisees trying to shop, but Versace and Gucci are not in my price range so I didnt buy anything. We stopped to eat dinner at a cafn the strip. The food tasted wonderful and the World Cup was on again so we got to watch that as well. Two French gentlemen sat next to us and although they knew very little English, we still managed to talk to them for quite awhile. They taught us how to ask for the bill and we taught them a little English. Being kind like all the French people we have met, they offered to shop with us and take us on a night cruise on the Seine River, but they didnt want to walk all the way to the boat and we didnt want to ride in their carso we parted ways. Teresa and I continued to walk up and down the Champ de Elisees people watching until it was time to take the Metro back home.
I never realized how much slang I use in speech until I tried speaking with someone who barely knew the language. Fortunately for us Americans, there are a lot of people in the world who learn English. I feel bad asking others to speak English while I am in France, but I can barely remember when to say bonjour and merci so it is for the best. Until tomorrow, au revoir!
