We got up early this morning and our driver, Fred, took us all to various hospitals where we were to follow nurses. I spent the morning in the Outpatient Unit where I chatted with some respiratory therapists?no nurses though. In the afternoon I went to the Minor Injuries Unit (they don?t have an Accident and Emergency department in the little hospitals). Basically I saw people come in with bites, cuts, bumps, and stings. I followed a nurse practitioner and she pretty much ran the whole unit herself. She was shocked to find out we spend so much money to go to school when nurses in England actually get paid to go! I was shocked to find out that the surgeon took his shoes and socks off in surgery and that nobody washes their hands or pay much attention to privacy around here. Some of my nursing Professors would have had a stroke watching some of the unusual practices here. It was a very interesting day.
Around seven, our driver took all of us to the Barracuda Bar in a town nearby. We ate, drank, and some people sang karaoke until the bar closed and kicked us out. I have never been in a van with seventeen drunken girls (who were also starving, thirsty, and hot) before and I am pretty sure I will never let that happen again. Fred was even nice enough to drive everyone to a hamburger place so they could eat. Teresa and I just gave each other backrubs in the van. As Mary Ann said on the bus ride to Scotland, ?I am way to sober for this?. It was a fun evening all in all.
British word of the day:
Quid ? used in the same way as we would say ?buck? but it means ?pounds?. Example: ?It will cost you about ten quid?. The first time I heard it, it reminded me of Harry Potter for some reason?I guess it just sounds made up or something.
