Savannah's tonsilectomy

Since the spring, Savannah has had frequent bouts of tonsil infections that really knock her down with a high fever and feeling quite bad. Her tonsils have always been really big and she's also reported sleep issues and snoring. With Kindergarten starting in August, I decided to be proactive in getting her tonsils assessed for removal. She was originally suppose to have a sleep study first, but when she got sick again on vacation, her ENT said lets just remove them and skip that step.

On July 17, she went in to get those guys out (along with her adenoids)! She actually had a mild fever, but thankfully they performed the surgery anyways and the ENT said her tonsils were infected and gross. She was really nervous (naturally) but did a great job and, once the weirdness from the anesthesia wore off midday, she seemed pretty good! She and I went to Target the weekend before and picked an assortment of unhealthy but cold/soft food items and drinks.

The recovery is about 10 days for kids (with typically the worst days being 4/5 and 7-10 when the scabs fall off). We followed advice with around the clock Tylenol/ibuprofen alterations every 3-4 hours to keep the pain at bay eventually switching Tylenol with a narcotic. She also was instructed to drink a lot and avoid much activity, so our schedule was really boring and screen heavy for over a week. It was a looooong recovery with restless nights and tearful days. Savannah was often in a lot of pain and could sometimes barely eat or drink. We had many battles getting her to take her medications (especially at night when she was half asleep) which was frustrating for everyone. However, today is day 10 and things are finally turning a corner! Glad to have this behind us!
